It was probably a couple of years ago that my sister first suggested that I start writing a blog.
I figured that I didn't have anything to blog about....my life wasn't interesting, I wasn't a celebrity. I didn't travel, or make up fancy recipes and I was a point and click photographer. I didn't take part in extreme or even unextreme sports. I didn't have a new baby, or any plans to have one. I wasn't a writer, though I had always enjoyed writing.
What could I possibly have to say that would be worth reading?
So I thought about it briefly and then did nothing.
Then, back in August, she sent me a link to a blog. I clicked, and I was inspired, just like that. Suddenly I realised that you don't need to be leading an extraordinary life in order to blog about it. I read the current post, then clicked older post, again and again and again. I was laughing, I was nodding, I was being entertained, I laughed some more and I loved it.
I experienced a little epiphany, I don't have to be saving the world (though you can if you like), I don't need to be educating anybody (though that's a great idea too), I don't have to be reaching seemingly unattainable goals...I can just write what I want to...and that's okay.
So that very day I started writing my little blog...little doesn't really describe it...it's minuscule. It's the place where I can record what I've done...or what I haven't done. I can have a little rant, release a bit of stress, tell a story or share my feelings....and it's my blog so it's all okay.
My page views may be small and my followers even smaller....but that's okay too.
Though please, please feel free to follow me......you will be most welcome :)
P.S. The source of my inspiration was the fantastically funny, irrepressible, irreverent and totally fabulous Mrs Woog @ WOOGSWORLD........love it!
Definitely keep blogging (hahaha I just typed 'bogging' - now that's a whole different kettle of bananas!) - followers doesn't equal readers!!
ReplyDeleteI will keep blogging and bogging ;)

I found your blog through the lovely Mrs Woog and came to it because I love the title (I'm a redhead). I spend rather a LOT of time reading blogs every day and would love to write one but also feel that I have nothing to write about - I'm over 50 and I don't work any more; my children have grown and left home. Anyway.... I will bookmark you and come here to check what you have to say, with pleasure.
ReplyDeleteHi dsquared, thank you for your comment...you should definitely write a blog..you will find, as I did, that there is always something to write about.
DeleteIf you decide to start one....be sure to let me know...and I promise to follow you :)
Well thank you! I have been thinking about it for a while (and confess to already having a travel blog BUT I don't travel non-stop, obviously, and it's the other 90% of my life that I would potentially want to write about). We'll see...

It's so true that everyone has a story, and if you listen, you never know what you will find. I think that the "little" real life blogs are so much more valuable than a million celebrities, and just as entertaining!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you :0)

Love this. I thought about blogging for a very long time before I actually did it. And I'm so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily ... it makes you look at life through different eyes doesn't it :0)

That is the special thing about bloggers, simple, everyday people with simple, everyday lives that are extraordinarily interesting!
ReplyDeleteExactly :0)

Everyone does have a story - that's definitely something I have learned as I've traversed this blogging road. And I love discovering new voices and new points of view - it really is so much fun!
ReplyDeleteSo true ... so many blogging people all with their own take on the world ... it's inspiring :0)

I do love the "blog like nobody is watching" approach!! x
ReplyDeleteMe too :0)

Beautifully said. I think sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the pressure of what to blog about and whether it fits your brand etc. I love how simply you explain that writing is about the author as much as it is about the readers :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment Kylah :0)

I am the same I just started writing my blog for me :)
ReplyDeleteThat's the very best person to write it for ...and if anyone else enjoys it then that's a bonus :0)
