He's the innovator … he goes where no man has gone before … and he believes he does it with the correct level of swagger.
This week he debuted this look.
More specifically these …
Hubby was horrified!
He felt it was his duty to regale us with the traumatic tale of how … in 1984 … he was out on his paper route … delivering newspapers … when he came upon an elderly man mowing his lawn in shorts … black leather shoes and black socks. He was appalled … and he has never been able to forget the disturbing sight.
But Master 16 was not to be deterred … after all he has no intention of taking fashion advice from a middle aged man … especially one that found these ensembles acceptable …
And so he wore those black socks … and he wore them with pride.
Hubby felt he was entitled to his right of reply … and it came in the form of a collage.
A dedication to black socks the world over … and the men that wear them … with pride.
Ah yes, over here nobody would blink an eye, but in Oz - land of the long white socks I can quite see why it caused such consternation.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was the black socks per se that caused his consternation ... more the black sock/shorts combination that he found so troubling. Mind you Hubby is NOT renowned for his fashion ... so I wouldn't pay too much mind to his opinion ;0)

I love these pics a lot!!! I am rather fond of the pipe smoking, spade holding older gent, and the chaffing short shorts man with the red 't' shirt, your hubs pastel ensemble and 'cock and bull' vest has made me all nostalgic! I had a koppa vest (should have been kappa, and a whole lot less rude) Master 16 has took this look and made cooler! x x x
ReplyDeleteit! made it cooler.....! grammar!!x x x
DeleteLOL ... he'd like to think so ... In fact I think he'd like to believe he invented the black sock ;0)

Oh these hip young things, taking over grandad fashions and making them cool! Good for him; tell your husband he needs to get down with the kids! xxx
ReplyDeleteI'll tell him ... I'm not sure he'll be convinced ;0)
Deletexx
Ahhhh what fun you have going on in your house. xxxxx
ReplyDeleteNever a dull moment around here ;0)

Oh yeah, the teens here love their black socks, shoes and shorts combos here, too! I love that snap of your husband in his pink shorts - looks like he's stepped straight off the set of Neighbours circa 1984! x
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Jason Donovan was his style icon ;0)

I Love the picture of your husband in the pink shorts. You should definitely get that framed. Yeah, the kids in black sox are everywhere around here. The latest trend is white tube sox with the stripe, pulled up to the knee, with sandals. You might want to alert your husband.
ReplyDeleteI'll give him some advance warning ... the shock might not be so bad that way ;0)

Seriously Connie!!!!?? Too horrible to contemplate
DeleteThat's gorgeous. I love his black specs!
ReplyDeleteSo does he ... never was a boy more happy to find out he was short sighted ;0)
Deletexx
Ha that collage is priceless! Jo xx
ReplyDeleteLOL ... it's a look worth celebrating ;0)

Excellent work Master 16, just do not wear them with sandals. Or Mandals as my lads call them which is Man Sandals, a big no no in this house, they would rather die than wear mandals!!!
ReplyDeleteNo mandals ... so far ... but you can never say never ;0)

Loved this. My 12 y.o. is going through this stage already. x
ReplyDeleteAlready? Luckily Master 16 didn't really get going until after he was earning his own money :0)

Whilst your son pulled the look off well, quite spiffy really. The collage your husband did! I'm going to have nightmares.. too horrifying!!
ReplyDeleteLOL

Oh that gave me such a laugh! But did you notice your hubby`s old rags of yester-year are actually not too dissimilar to the current fashions? That patterned singlet and peach shorts combination would not look out of place on the young bucks in the food court at my local Westfield. Maybe Mr. 16 should pay more attention to your hubby`s advice? (although god knows he`d probably never admit it!)
ReplyDeleteEverything old is new again … even the dubious fashion choices ;0)

hilarious. I love that your son has his own style and is sticking to it xx
ReplyDeleteI can't accuse him of lacking confidence ;0)
Deletexx
Oh dear. And how did the collage go down? And more importantly… Did the middle aged man permit you to post those photos?! Oh dear.
ReplyDeleteOh he didn't mind … he only wishes he still had that figure ;0)
Deletexx
You son is definitely pulling the look off, but the collage is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteHubby clearly feels very strongly about the shorts and black sock combination ;0)
Deletexx
love them! Black socks are the only way to go! white socks would be laughed at here in the uk! x
ReplyDeleteNO … really???
DeleteBlack socks with business suits … otherwise white socks … or no socks in these parts. Except for teenage boys of course ;0)
LMAO oh I can relate - my son does this too and I say to him - are you TRYING to look ridiculous. The funny thing is they thing it looks cool! xx
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wear my socks and thongs!!! I know HORROR!! But only when I am picking Hubby up from the station and I pray I wont have to get out of the car.....
