Road tripping ....

It's time for my latest weekend wrap up ... and what a weekend it was.

A friend of ours was turning 50 ... and he was having a big party.

Only problem was ... it was in Melbourne ... a mere 969.5 kms away.

Not that this was a problem for Hubby ... he was already in Melbourne for work.  So it was his grand plan that since he was already down there ... it would be no problem at all for me to drive the ten plus hours down to meet him.

My Mother-in-law came up to stay with the kids ... so I was flying solo.

Which was both good and bad.

Good ... because there were no kids nagging me.  No asking me when we would be be there.  No asking for toilet stops.  No requesting McDonalds for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Good ... because it gave me the opportunity to sing along VERY loudly to my entire ABBA CD collection.  Trust me enclosed alone within a vehicle travelling at high speed is the only time it is acceptable for me to do this.

Good ... because I got plenty of alone time for thinking and pondering.  Though my thinking and pondering skills were somewhat hampered by ABBA playing at such high decibels.

Bad ... because it is such a long, long way.  Which seems even longer when you have no one to whinge to ... about what a long way it is.

Bad ... because there is no one to share the driving with ... and therefore no way to have a break without actually stopping ... which in turn means that your travel time is now 11 hours instead of 10 hours.

Bad because it gets so boring without distractions and it pretty much looks like this ...

... the entire way from Sydney to Melbourne ... except for when you make it into Victoria when it becomes even more boring.

But I did FINALLY make it (11 hours later), managed to locate Hubby and stayed Friday night in Melbourne.  This was the view from our room.

We went out for dinner and then a little play at the Casino. I won ... Hubby lost ... pretty much sums up his life ... I'm sure he'd say.

Now since Melbourne doesn't have a Harbour Bridge or an Opera House ... they make do with a Giant Donut ...

and a Dramatic Emission of Gas.

I jest ... Melbourne is fab ... if you can't get to Sydney ... kidding!!

Saturday we went shopping ... which is where Melbourne really comes into it's own ... gorgeous shops ... little lane ways filled with cafes and boutiques etc ... character galore.

Then we were off to the "burbs" to attend the party.

Hubby had booked us into the Eltham Motor Inn ... which was just a quick hop, skip and jump from the party location ... very handy for any drunken stumblings home later in the evening.

Apparently it was all happening in Eltham this weekend ... because the Motor Inn was all booked out ... bar the "Honeymoon Suite" ... so that's what we got.

Can you feel the romance ...

NO ... neither could I ... unlucky Hubby.

I was rather excited by the presence of a bidet ... but as there was no Internet access ... I couldn't google how to use it.

Another day ... another bidet ... perhaps.

It was dinner with old friends ... off to the party ... too much sauv blanc ... too much drunken dancing ... not enough sleep ... and waaaay too far to get back home again.

How was your weekend?

    2. was there a door to the toilet? I know honeymooning maybe is about discovery?! hehe, it looked fabulous though!, and time spent occasionally with the other half is a good thing!! especially winning! I've never even been to a Casino, pah! Abba sounds the best company for a sing-song for the longest drive ever! well done, and it looked like an amazing weekend! x x

  2. I had a very quiet and uneventful weekend, thanks for asking - not like YOU, you party animal! Sounds like an exhausting drive, but Singing Very Loudly is always good, and drunken dancing before falling over in the Honeymoon Suite is even better. You've still got it, Jo! xxxx

    1. See now that's the problem with stumbling home drunk ... you're so busy trying to put one foot in front of the other in a semblance of soberness ... that you forget all about taking photos of it.
Toilet had a door ... thank goodness.
Hope the decorating is going ok ... take a deep breath ... no point stressing ... all this advice coming to you free from the biggest stress head known to mankind ... ME
