This only ever means one thing … he wants the day off school.
Now I've got "sick versus sickie" detection down to a fine art.
It took but a glance to tell me that this request was of the "sickie" variety.
"I've got a bit of a headache."
Now I'm a long time headache sufferer … so they … "they" being my kids ... know I'm a sucker for this particular excuse.
So I used the old "Well there will be no television and no PlayStation and no iPad … and you will stay in bed … without your phone."
Generally this threat is enough to give the malingerer the burst of energy he requires to get up and go to school.
But not so this morning … he accepted the conditions … and I accepted the inevitable fact that I had him home for the day.
I sent him back to bed … and set about rearranging my day.
And as if by magic … at exactly and precisely 9:00am … he emerged from his room with a spring in his step, a twinkle in his eye … and a long boring day ahead of him.
