A picture's worth 1000 words … week 1 ...

I've made the momentous decision not to participate in the 52 Portraits Project this year.

It was great fun … and I do love the end result.  I now have an entire year in the boy's lives recorded week by week … to be transformed into a photo book … just as soon as I get around to it.  But the boys were pretty over it … and I was pretty over it … and lets face it … two teenage boys were a little out of place in a linky aimed at shots of cutie patootie babies.

But I didn't want to give up on a photography project altogether.

I know me … and if I don't have goal … or a deadline … I get distracted.  Chances are, I wouldn't bother to take another photo for who knows how long.

So I've set myself an assignment … to take one photo a day … of anything at all.  It could be my breakfast … a beautiful sunset … a new purchase … even a festy toenail … though I'll try to avoid the festy toenail.

Then each Sunday I'll post that week's shots.

The gorgeous and talented Emily over at The Beetle Shack hosts a weekly Linky party of "Stills" … so I might just link up to that … to give me the impetus kick up the backside I need.

So without further ado … here's this weeks shots … starting from the first day of the first month of 2014.

Day One:  One last shot of a Christmas decoration … before they all get packed away till next December.

Day Two:  Tomatoes in various stages of ripening on the vine.

Day Three:  I nearly walked through the web containing this incy wincy (not) spider … so I did what I  always do in these situations and emptied a bottle of insect spray on it.  I took this photo of the crime scene the next morning … the corpse in situ … RIP.

Day Four:  Xmas chocolates calling my name … loudly … the treadmill has given up calling … cause I never answer.

    1. That spider was mighty scary … big, fat and hairy … the three things I despise most in my spiders.

  3. My exercise bike has given up calling me from out in the shed! I love how Emily's link up gives a sense of cohesion to my random shots from the week!

    1. I understand exactly … now its not "Why in the world did I take that photo?" … it's "I was thinking ahead and took that for my weekly stills" ;0)

  4. Having a little photography goal will make you want to pick up the camera if your kids aren't that much into it anymore. Take a look at the blog 3191 Miles Apart for some beautiful stills. I loved reading the post about Santa and I'm with you on keep on taking them. It takes all of 5 mins of embarrassment and for that they get fed, driven around, washed and ironed clothes and probably pocket money... I'm with you, it's the least they can do for you and it's so cute. Rove McManus used to get a photo on santa's knee each year with his former wife Belinda so if it's good enough for Rove.... 7. You might be interested in a monthly photo challenge hosted by P.J. of a lil hoo ha. His theme for January is "new." December's theme was "festive."

It is a great group of people that link up (myself included sometimes) *grins*

  8. I can't believe you did a whole year of photos of your boys, I am useless at keeping to any kind of schedule like that. Yes, your new plan seems like a very good idea, and the pics this week are brilliant. Love that first one of the star. Good luck (and still take the occasional pic of those gorgeous boys of yours, I'll miss them if they disappear altogether from your blog, Jo!) xxx

    1. It WAS flaming huge … with an actual HUGE body. Though that was lucky in a way … if it hadn't been SOOOO HUGE I might have missed it and I'd have been wearing it for sure. Would you like me to mount it on a pin and send it to you for a new brooch?? ;0)

  11. Walking through that spiders web? Ooo - cold shivers. I'm fine with spiders… just not anywhere near me. There was an unfortunate accident with a spider on my hand when I was driving last year… Such a stunning photo of the Christmas decorations. Looking forward to following your stills!

    1. Thanks Kirsty … my sister had a huntsman come up through one of her car's air vents whilst driving once and run across the windscreen. I might be able to handle one on the outside of the windscreen … just … but the inside … no thank you ;0)
