Inside my sketchbook … issue 9 ...

Oh pastels … where have you been all my life?

Now don't get me wrong … I'm as fond of a pastel hue as the next girl ... who spent her formative years in the eighties.

But the pastels I refer to are these …

Until recently … very recently … I had never touched them, perused them or used them.   But that's all changed.  Inspired by Shawna's recent use of them in her portraits I decided to give them a whirl.

And that's where it started … now I may have a little crush on them … now I may even be a bit stalkerish with them.

Here's my very first attempt … it's safe to say I hadn't a clue what I was doing … but I do know it was fun.

Messy, smudgy fun.

Here's my second attempt … some random guy from the newspaper … who can't complain that I made his face soooo long.

And then my third attempt.  I gave Adam Goodes a go … he's an AFL footballer and the current "Australian of the Year".

Hubby says his ears are all wrong … I say who cares!

Then my fourth attempt … a little sail boat on Sydney Harbour.

Attempt number five. A little flight of fabrication, fantasy and fun.

And there you have it … five pictures in two days.  I'm clearly in the throes of a new and steamy romance … five dates in two days IS a little excessive.

I must take a break … pull myself together … perhaps allow myself a little treat … pastille anyone?

  1. You certainly are in the throes of a new romance! Wow, some fantastic work there! Loving the portraits, I have never attempted faces...somehow I don't think I would be especially good at them. The pastels look like they are fun, even if very messy!

  7. Love the softness that pastels give and these pics of yours are a fabulous demonstration of them. I like the bloke from the paper too and of course, who doesn't love a Rowntrees pastille?
